Outlook Web Access (OWA) - 'Problem With This Website's Security Certificate' Message

Note: These instructions apply to Microsoft Internet Explorer v8.

When using Outlook Web Access (OWA), you may encounter an error message warning you about a problem with the websites security certificate.

This is nothing to worry about. Usually, secure websites have their certificates 'signed' by a recognised authority. This can cost several hundred pounds and isn't essential for a small business with only a few users accessing their mails on the move.

You can add OWA's certificate to your web browser manually which will allow you to skip this warning in future.

Click the red "Certificate Error" button near the address bar.
On the pop-up window, click "View Certificates"
In the "Certifcate" window, click "Install Certificate"
In the "Cerificate Import Wizard" window, click "Next >"
Leave "Automatically select the certificate store.." radio button selected, and click "Next >"
Click "Finish" to complete the wizard.
Answer "Yes" when asked "Do you want to install this certificate?"
Click "OK" twice to return to Internet Explorer.
Close Internet Explorer and connect to Outlook Web Access again. The error message will no longer be shown.
